Family Day

Back home in Canada, it’s Family Day today.

It’s a little weird that the only way to get families to hang out together is to create a holiday called “Family Day”, but hey, I guess in this day and age, we take what we can get, eh?

My family’s actually pretty darn good for hanging out together.  I mean, we weren’t always.  There was a divorce.  And the siblings didn’t always get along.  But now … I’m really proud to say that I love hanging out with everybody in my family.  It feels kinda redundant to say that except that I know a bunch of people who, when being honest with themselves, wouldn’t be able to say that.

That sucks.

Anyway.  I miss my family.  If I were home today on Family Day, I’d play a bunch of video games with my brothers Adam & Jacob.  I’d jam on some acoustic guitars with my dad.  I’d go out to lunch with my mom and tell her about my adventures.  I’d play a board game with my sister Stephanie but intentionally let the board game go unfinished as we drift into conversation.  And with my sister Shae well, I’m sure we could find some kind of random adventure to get ourselves into.

There’s also the question of my step-family – on both sides.  In the past I haven’t always been the best at being warm to all of these people – the “new” additions to the family, if you will.  I think I just never got a chance to make super strong connections with them … But that’s becoming more and more of a priority to me.  So, yes, obviously they’re in my Family Day fantasy plans too!

Unfortunately, I’m not in Canada for Family Day.  I’m in Nashville.  And on the schedule today are plans to jam with George, HK’s prospective bassist and Ben, HK’s prospective drummer.  These guys are going to become like family out on the road so … I guess it’s appropriate to be chilling with them on this wonderful day.

What are you Family Day plans?
