More About the Writer

I’ve blogged in the past.  These various weblogs always lacked consistency and focus – I didn’t know what I wanted to do with them.  After putting some thought into the “why” of starting a blog, I’m feeling optimistic about the future of Tonguetwistedink.com.

I’m 24.

I am currently NOT married to a woman, though I AM married to a rock band (2009). I work very hard in this band I’m in. (2010)

I started Hello Kelly in 2004.  Over 30 musicians have come in and out of Hello Kelly over the years.   Sigh.

I’ve released 5 records to date. The latest one, “Hello Kelly” was my first full-length release, produced by Adam Smith, released on 7Spin Music on April 12, 2008 and distributed by Provident Music Distribution.

At this writing (2009), I’m a week away from beginning production of the second full-length Hello Kelly record, which will be produced by Adam Smith, and have more of a mainstream industry focus than any of my previous work. At this writing (2010), that record is complete and I’m dying to release it, but waiting on some record label business to be sorted out.  Over the summer, Jesus hijacked the project and pulled me back to tumbling after Him.

I was born in Northern Ontario but grew up in Orangeville, ON., a small city an hour north of Toronto.

Whenever I’m home, I attend a dance-club-turned-church called 247 in Burlington.  If my pastor growing up taught me anything, it was the importance of being humble, serving others and that being a Christian doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to offend other Christians.

Now I live in Nashville, TN where I attend a church called The Anchor.  People are very raw there and the music is really great.  So is the teaching.

I love music.  My favourite bands right now are Paramore, Jimmy Eat World and Motion City Soundtrack.  I also have a terminal weakness for late-90’s pop-rock.  (Third Eye Blind, Matchbox Twenty, Everclear).  Additionally, I love country, jazz and non-annoying-pop.

I’ve grappled with my stutter for years and years.

My outlook about my stutter is to not let it slow me down.  Has it prevented me from doing some things in life?  Probably.  Do I hate struggling with it every day?  Yes.  I hold onto the fact that God makes his glory known through our weaknesses.  I also acknowledge that my stutter keeps me humble and I’m grateful for that.

I’ve recently decided that it’s courageous for a man to believe in impossible things, including the possibility that God would heal a man’s stutter.  If you’re somebody who prays and also believes in impossible things, I would deeply appreciate your prayers too!

As a kid, I watched early 90’s Saturday morning TV: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, Power Rangers.  Nothing kids watch these days can compare.  These days, I watch the following shows religiously: 24, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Chuck and Community.  This season, I’m also experimenting with Community and Trauma Outsourced and The Event.  Talk to me about all of these shows!  I never watch anything else.

In recent years, a passion has been birthed in me to be a screenwriter:.  I have developed 2 franchises pilots for TV and a handful of treatments for screenplays.  If you’re interested in hearing about them, leave a comment or e-mail me.

In October 2009, I went to a Toronto Roller Derby game and it’s my new favourite sport.  I fell in love with a derby girl who called herself Audrey Hellbourne.

I didn’t get to meet her.  Sigh.

In the Summer of 2010, I went to a couple Nashville Roller Derby games, where I fell in love with a derby girl named Slammylou Harris.

I DID get to meet her.  Double sigh.

I have a cartoon crush on Kim Possible and Misty from Pokemon.  Orange cartoon hair: Gets me ever time.  I also once started dating a girl thinking she had red hair when it was actually brown.  She was very gracious with my lack of observation.

I play guitar and bass with confidence.  I play piano with zero confidence.

I like Tim Hortons.

I think I’m a decent enough guy.

I enjoy good beer.

I’m proudly Canadian.
